40 Over 40 in South Florida

25 words came to my mind when award-winning accredited master fine art photographer, LuAnn Warner-Prokos, asked me to explain ‘What makes you YOU?”
The question was all part of LuAnn’s 40 Over 40 Campaign that recognized female community leaders and clients through portraiture.
I was supposed to write in full sentences. Everyone else did.
But what ended up on the page were simple words that had a whole lot of meaning to me in 2022.
I don’t think one thing makes me… me.
I feel we all are such combinations of ‘things,’ people, environments and experiences.
What makes you you in 25 words?
Here was my go at it…
Joy. Love. Pain. Time. Travel. Environment. Kin. Friends. Education. Stories. Photos. News. Sports. Motherhood. Adventure. History. Honesty. Curiosity. Generosity. Confidence. Hesitation. Independence. Dependence. Patience. Passion.
So in other words, I’m just a gal who feels a whole lot of love and joy for the people, places and blessings around me… three healthy kiddos, a beautiful community, a village, a home.
A gal who knows the pain of losing a mom, losing a dad, and then divorce. And the pain that creeps up on us from daily struggles, friendships, relationships and parenthood - the ups and downs and times we wonder if we are doing it right, will they be okay, am I doing enough…and are they?
A gal who appreciates where she came from… a gal who is excited to see where the hec she’s going…one step forward and sometimes, one step back.
A gal who feels strong but sometimes so very weak….so ready to go and sometimes not so sure.
A gal who loves to tell stories, travel here and there, play in the game, watch the game and most importantly, learn from the game.
And a gal who, like LuAnn Warner-Prokos, enjoys taking pictures of all of it along the way!
That’s PK. Today anyway. Ask me tomorrow and it all might change which is why you should consider allowing LuAnn to capture your now.
LuAnn highlighted the successes, accomplishments and inner beauty of 40 ladies through her lense over this past year. She then wrapped it all up with a celebratory 40 Over 40 Campaign event March 8th in partnership with SoFlo Habitat and Sklar Furnishings.
Kudos to an artisan photographer who had the vision and passion for a project and made it happen…for her company and more importantly, for all of us.
