Tom Herman Inspires at YMCA Reception

Inspiration.

It’s something we all could use a little more of these days.

So the YMCA of South Palm Beach County is stepping in to spread the good word - inspiring ones for sure - with the help of some friends.

Athletic, well-known, empowering friends.

Ones we all would be honored to call friend.

Ones we all would want our children to know and learn from.

Emmitt Smith is one. The Pro Football Hall of Fame, 8-time Pro Bowler and former ESPN and NFL Network Analyst will serve as keynote speaker in front of nearly 700 people at the YMCA of South Palm Beach County’s annual Inspiration Breakfast on March 1. Tom Herman is the other. The Hagerty Family Head Football Coach at Florida Atlantic University joined the Owl community just a few months ago. Herman headlined the YMCA’s Inspiration Breakfast VIP Reception February 21 to kick the Inspiration Breakfast Series off and he did not disappoint.

“My personal journey was so completely impacted by the coaches, the people I had in my life, by the YMCA’s of the world, the organization’s that took care of me as a child growing up,” said Herman.

“I just want everybody affiliated with the YMCA to understand that their commitment to this organization makes an impact and I’m living proof of it,” added Herman.

Dozens of YMCA supporters gathered at The Aaron B. Fogelman Sports Museum at the Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence at FAU for a night with Coach Herman, moderated by Inspiration Breakfast Co-Chair Brad Winstead.

“The YMCA is about helping young people and that’s what we do at FAU as well. A lot of our donors are YMCA donors and vice versa - it’s a community effort” said Brian White, FAU Vice President and Director of Athletics.

YMCA of South Palm Beach County President & CEO, Jason Hagensick, energized the crowd with organization updates and gratitude for the YMCA staff and supporters.

“What’s inspired me about a career in the YMCA is the people that I’ve gotten to build a relationship and friendships with,” said Hagensick.

“I’m helping because it really resonates with me that any little bit that I do for our Y gives back in a big way,” said Linda Gunn Paton, YMCA Board of Trustees member.
