Love Lives On

Remembering Dad on Father’s Day, Nutella Style

I was searching for a quote about fathers and daughters to post this Father’s Day.

Something that moved me. Something that made me think of my dad and connect with him wherever his spirit rests.

Something that would hopefully mean something to some of you as well.

I looked in my mom’s ‘keeper file’ of quotes but on this day, nothing hit home.

I googled ‘father daughter quotes’ but that search didn’t last long.

So I sipped my coffee and sat for a moment, thinking of my dad.

And what kept popping into my head were video clips I found recently of one caregiving moment out of many.

In my dad’s final few years of life, he suffered several falls that catapulted his Alzheimers symptoms. And while Dad’s Alzheimers was extremely difficult to manage, we found ways to celebrate him and the good ‘ol Ed that remained within many unexpected moments despite the dementia.

Like a simple snack time with my kiddos, three of the six grandkids that call him Pa Blue. On many days, they were his best medicine.

Dad had never heard of Nutella (I hadn’t even tried it until I had kids!) and so the snack of choice one day in January of 2020 became quite fun when Dad made a phrase of it... watch here:

And this, my friends, is why you enjoy your parents and grandparents if you can and while you can. And why you should pick up your camera and roll some video in the smallest of moments.

I’m Nu-tella-ing you… one day, those are the moments that will make you laugh and smile when you miss someone the most.

Those are the moments that will provide a perfect memory that helps keep loved ones present even when they’re gone.

Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads out there and remember…. Nutella to me and I’ll tella to you!

(This is not a paid advertisement for Nutella. Just a memory…. thanks to Nutella!)
