5 Things to Know Before You Go to Montage Palmetto Bluff

Montage Palmetto Bluff sits on 20,000 acres in the heart of South Carolina’s Lowcountry between Hilton Head Island and Savannah. Set along the May River, this picturesque retreat provides a perfect blend of Southern charm, relaxation, and adventure.

May River, Montage Palmetto Bluff

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing weekend getaway, a new place to explore or the perfect place to pause overnight while on a road trip, Montage Palmetto Bluff has something to offer each of us.

The luxurious resort offers a blissful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and is an enjoyable destination for solo or couple getaways and friends and family ones too.

Let’s explore things to do and what to know before you go to Montage Palmetto Bluff!

WHERE TO STAY

There are several accommodation options on property - guests room at the Inn, spacious cottages, suites and village homes. Bicycle rentals are complimentary with each booking and you can rent golf carts for an extra fee. Montage Palmetto Bluff is also very pet friendly. Vacation rental sites have some Palmetto Bluff properties but you won’t get nearly as many perks and amenities offered by booking through Montage. (P.S. one night won’t feel like enough!).

WHAT TO DO

Don’t miss bike and hike trails and opportunities to spend time on or along the water.  When it comes to golf, Montage curated an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Course within the native landscape. There are tennis and pickleball courts as well as fitness classes, boat & dolphin tours, fishing excursions, paddleboarding and kayaking. Spa Montage offers a peaceful oasis to include dozens of wellness rituals, a private adults-only pool and a salon. There is so much history here so take advantage of the guided history and nature tours when time allows.

For families, be sure to explore the two treehouses on property (one is five stories with beautiful views of the May River!), hike and bike some trails, catch a fish or two, roast a s’more (nightly s’more roasting at the Main Inn!) and swim in the pool. Montage offers merit badge pins to kiddos who chart their adventures and also has a Paintbox kids club program so parents can have some free time too!

I love the Photography Concierge program that includes a complimentary one-hour photo session during your stay as well as the Veuve Clicquot Picnic + Pedal experience!

WHERE TO DINE

Celebrating land, earth and sea - that’s what they do at River House, fine dining featuring steaks and seafood. I started off with a refreshing River House Spritzer and we all enjoyed Chilled Shrimp Cocktail, a Burrata & Strawberry Salad, Rainbow Trout, Prime Filet, Asparagus & Allum Crispies and some Whipped Potatoes. Not to mention two specialty desserts.

In the morning, I rode my bicycle along the river and through the paths lined with centuries-old oak trees to Buzz, setting the tone for the day thanks to fresh brewed coffee, layered yogurt parfaits and delicious fresh pastries. Next time, we want to try Octagon, Canteen and the ice cream shop, Melt!

WHERE TO TOAST

We might have found Montage Palmetto Bluff’s hidden speakeasy bar at River House too, but don’t say I mentioned it (wink wink). Casual cocktails and Mexican-style fare can be found at Fore & Aft at the pool and Hush serves up the carefully curated bourbon, rye and other premium spirits at River House.

Life’s larger toasts are held in Somerset Chapel, May River Chapel and several other wedding and event venues on property. Once you step inside these chapels and get a feel for the spaces, you’ll quickly see why celebrities and generations of families have held their weddings at Montage Palmetto Bluff. There’s nothing better than a one-stop-shop destination for groups and families to enjoy and explore all weekend, here they have it all.

WHERE TO SHOP

Boutiques and shops are located throughout the property including RT’s Market (your upgraded neighborhood general store plus plus), Boundary Bottle Shop, May River Pro Shop, Palmetto Bluff Outfitters, Peter Millar, Simone and several other gift shops. Enjoy a complimentary driving experience too in one of Montage’s Cadillac vehicles to venture out to Bluffton, Hilton Head or Savannah… so much to see and do amongst vast stretches of scenic marshlands, towering oak trees and tranquil rivers. Let’s go!
